Mary Vaux Walcott – Printable Wall Art, American Artist, Vintage Botanical, Digital Download

9,00

Mary Vaux Walcott — the extraordinary American naturalist, mountaineer, and painter known as the “Audubon of Botany.” Born into a wealthy Philadelphia Quaker family in 1860, Walcott spent decades exploring the rugged Canadian Rockies, becoming the first woman to summit the 10,000-foot Mount Stephen, co-founding the Alpine Club of Canada, and pioneering the first formal glacier study in Canadian history. But it was her breathtaking watercolor paintings of wildflowers that secured her legacy. In 1925, the Smithsonian Institution published some 400 of her botanical prints in the landmark five-volume North American Wild Flowers — a masterwork of botanical art that remains a treasure of vintage botanical illustration. Her paintings hang in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and a mountain in Jasper National Park bears her name.
