Wiktoria Goryńska — the brilliant Polish artist, resistance fighter, and master of the woodcut who created over a hundred extraordinary works before the world tried to silence her. Born in Vienna in 1902, Goryńska studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule and Warsaw’s Academy of Fine Arts under masters like Władysław Skoczylas, becoming one of Poland’s finest graphic artists. She won gold in Florence for her stunning Pietà woodcut and silver in Paris in 1937. A member of the legendary RYT Association of Graphic Artists — dedicated to perfecting the art of woodblock printing — she created religious, fantasy, and animalistic woodcut prints of breathtaking power and detail. Her work is held by the British Museum and the National Museum in Warsaw. During WWII, she joined the Polish underground resistance as a Home Army liaison officer. She died at Ravensbrück concentration camp in 1945, aged just 42. These are the hand printed woodcut and linocut print treasures your walls have been waiting for.
